Members of the Mystery Retina/Medical Retina Session at APAO in Bangkok, Thailand

The Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) is the most important ophthalmology meeting in Asia. At this annual meeting, Dr. Kokame was invited to chair the session on medical retina, entitled mystery retinal cases. The international and Asian faculty put together in this session was superb, and included close friends and colleagues of Dr. Kokame, including Dr. Lihteh Wu from Costa Rica, Dr. Adrian Koh from Singapore, Dr. Bill Mieler from the US, and Dr. Voraporn Chaikitmongkol of Thailand. The case presentations were excellent and generated excellent discussion which allowed for a good learning experience for all.

While in Thailand, Dr. Kokame was also able to visit the department of Ophthalmology at Chiang-Mai University and lecture about Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy in the US and around the rest of the world. He enjoyed teaching the residents, fellows and faculty about this very under-diagnosed disease and was able to shed some light on what it is like to practice in Hawaii.
